Certified Nurse Assistant Customized Training/Rome Memorial Hospital

anticipated start date:  1/22/18

BOCES Nurse Aide training program in conjunction with Rome Hospital.  Rome Memorial Hospital will pay $650 toward the cost of each certification, to be matched with $600 in federal job training (WIOA) funds through Working Solutions, for a total of $1250.

These instructions will help you through the selection and registration process and answer some of your questions.

Step 1: Complete an application for employment at Rome Hospital. Applications can be completed online at or visit Human Resources located at 1500 N James Street, Rome, NY.

Step 2: Schedule and take the FREE TABE exam at one of the BOCES ACCESS Sites in Rome, Utica or Oneida:

You will need to bring your High School Diploma OR High School Equivalency Diploma to BOCES and Photo I.D. on or before test day to continue the admissions process. If you do not pass, you may retake the test after 30 days.

You will only need to take the reading portion of the TABE exam. If your reading score is at the seventh (7th) grade level or higher, you may continue in the Nurse Aide program admissions process.

Step 3: If your score meets BOCES' TABE requirements, then BOCES will give you their Certified Nurse Aide Admission Packet to complete with 3 forms:

1. The Nursing Assistant Intake Assessment Form, leave the 'Test Results' section blank.

2. The Admissions Application (pink). Complete all sections and return

3. The Health Form packet. Complete for your records.


Step 5: Visit a Working Solutions American Job Center to register for services and apply for federally funded job training scholarship to cover the WIOA portion of class funding. You will need to bring an ID showing your date of birth for registration. This step must be completed at least 10 days before the start of class. 

Be prepared to spend at least 90 minutes with a Working Solutions Advisor

Step 6: Provide immunization and health care documentation. If you do not have current immunizations, a physical or TB test, Rome Hospital will provide those upon hiring. If you believe that you are current with the requirements stated, YOU MUST provide documentation, otherwise you will need to complete the requirements again.
