The Democratic Commissioner of the Herkimer County Board of Elections is looking for a full-time Democratic Deputy Commissioner. All candidates must be a resident of Herkimer County, a registered democrat, and be able to complete an I9 form.
The job of deputy has greatly evolved over the years. While this was once seen as a purely clerical job in nature, that is no longer the case. An ideal candidate will have all of the following:
- Intermediate understanding of computers
- Ability to perform data entry tasks
- Assist and/or lead training(s) of election day workers
- Be able to familiarize self with relevant election law
- Be detailed oriented
- High aptitude for solving problems, sometimes under pressure
- Work well in a team setting within a small office setting
- Ability to be professional and respectful when interacting with elected official and general public
The starting compensation for this position is $32,000 per year with benefits. A typical schedule is Monday – Friday, 8am/9am – 4pm/5pm with an hour lunch. During election periods, overtime is required to complete the tasks of absentee preparation, early voting, and overall other election preparation. Generally no more than 10-15 hours during that time with flexible scheduling.
