Community Leaders:
We need your help!

To be successful in our application for a Veterans Upward Bound grant from the US Dept of Education, we need community support. This is a grant for the Veteran population and an opportunity to show community effort and support of Veterans and their important part in the community.

Here is the project:

The Workforce Investment Board will conduct extensive outreach and recruitment to serve 100 veterans per year who can be assisted to get into college through either refresher courses, upgrades of basic skills, or assistance with finding and getting the financial aid, support services, etc. they need. The grant will fund 4 staff and an assortment of costs (tests, assessments, supplies, field trips, college tours, etc.). We are working with local colleges, including MVCC, HCCC and SUNYIT.

We need community support to help us get this project in our community.

Of particular importance will be support from workforce and education partners, as well as agencies that work with veterans.

A sample draft letter of support is available on our website (MSWord, PDF) and can be adapted by just about anyone to fit their organization.
