TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

  • Struggling to job search in the digital age? Herkimer Working Solutions is hosting free computer training and certification classes from Northstar Digital Literacy. Learn basic computer skills, internet basics, career search skills, Microsoft Word and Excel and more. They have sessions every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. For more information call (315) 867-1400. 
  • Job Corps Information Session 9:00AM – 1:00PM every other Wednesday at the Herkimer County Working Solutions. Job Corps is a federally sponsored training program, offering training opportunities in Healthcare, Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Automotive, and more, all free of charge. Job Corps serves youth ages 16 – 24 and can help with GED, trades training, driving, soft skill training, and transition services. For more information, call Kimberly Dean at (607) 267-1621. Come learn how Job Corps can help you meet your employment and education goals! 
  • Empowered Pathways' Women's Employment & Resource Center (WERC) is offering a new workshop this spring. The Job Interview Skills workshop will be presented by their Executive Director, Stephanie Eghigian. The workshop will be on Tuesday, April 29th from 9:30AM to 12:30PM. 
  • Summer Jobs for Herkimer County Youth: See link for summer job opportunities through Herkimer County. Don’t delay-the positions will go fast.
  • The WERC Program at Empowered Pathways is offering a new workshop on May 29th from 9:30AM - 12:30PM. The title of the workshop is 'Unlocking Your Potential with Canva Pro'. It will be a tutorial on how to use Canva Design and go through some examples of what you can design on there. Those interested can call or email to sign up at (315)724-1718 ext.104 or .
  • Heavy Equipment Operation course at Madison-Oneida BOCES. The course will be May 19th – July 14th, Mondays – Thursdays 3:00PM – 8:00PM and Saturdays 7:00AM – 1:00PM with a tuition of $2,600. The focus of this course is hands-on experience with a dozer, loader, backhoe, skid steer excavator, and dump truck. Includes practical machinery care and daily maintenance. Student must provide suitable clothing for the operation of this machinery. Valid driver's license is required. First Aid/CPR and OSHA-10 included.   • The Waterville Residential Care Center is offering a free CNA training! This is a great opportunity for high school students age 16+ or anyone within the community. It is a 3-week course consisting of a combination of online coursework and 5 in person skills/clinical days. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be scheduled to take the NYS Prometric CNA exam at Waterville Residential Care Center. Their next class starts April 27th, with new classes starting every week. All businesses and job seekers in the following counties are invited to register: Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego counties.

The job fair will take place Tuesday, April 29th, from 11am to 1pm.

There will also be staff available from our training grant programs to talk to job seekers about how our free grant programs can help job seekers get started in a satisfying and good paying career.
